Does GTA 6 have online multiplayer? What we know about GTA 6 Online
Rockstar calls GTA VI “a single-player experience”. What that means for launch day, for GTA Online players, and for the multiplayer everyone expects next.

GTA VI does not launch with online multiplayer. Rockstar describes the game as “a single-player experience”, and as of October 15, 2026 no online mode — and no date for one — has been announced. Here's everything that's official, and what the clues suggest about what comes next.
What Rockstar and Take-Two have said
- Single-player at launch: Rockstar's June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement calls GTA VI “a single-player experience”, and the PlayStation Store FAQ uses the same wording.
- GTA Online continues: at its September 2026 shareholder meeting, Take-Two said the current GTA Online (the GTA V version) will keep being supported after GTA VI comes out.
- No microtransactions in GTA VI: Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told Kinda Funny in August that GTA VI has none. Rockstar wouldn't discuss its next online project.
The clues pointing to 2027
- Twitch's CEO: in September, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg he expects an even bigger streaming bump “next year when they launch multiplayer” — a comment from a partner, not an announcement by Rockstar.
- The age rating: GTA VI is rated M (Mature 17+) by the ESRB. TechTimes noted that the listing lacks the “Users Interact” notice usually attached to online games — an interpretation, not a statement from Rockstar.
- History: GTA Online launched about two weeks after GTA V in 2013, and Red Dead Online arrived a month after Red Dead Redemption 2. This time Rockstar has said nothing about timing.
What this means for you
- On November 19, 2026 you'll be playing Jason and Lucia's story on your own.
- If you play GTA Online today, nothing changes at launch. The free month of GTA+ included with digital GTA VI pre-orders applies to that existing GTA Online.
- When Rockstar announces an online mode for GTA VI, it will be on our news feed within the hour.
