Will GTA 6 fit on your PS5 or Xbox? Free storage calculator
Pre-load opens November 12 and nobody wants to be deleting games at midnight. Enter your free space and find out now.
Pre-load for GTA VI opens on November 12, 2026, and nobody wants to discover at midnight that their console is full. Rockstar hasn't published the official file size yet, so this calculator checks your free space against three realistic estimates. Pick your console, enter how much space you have, and you'll know in seconds.
Unofficial: Rockstar hasn't published the file size yet. We'll update this the moment it's official.
Enter your free space to see if GTA 6 fits.
How to make room before the Nov 12 pre-load
- Delete games you're not playing — you can re-download them anytime.
- Move them to an external USB drive (it can store PS5 and Series X|S games, but they have to go back to internal storage to play).
- Add fast storage: an M.2 SSD with heatsink for PS5, an official expansion card for Xbox.
How big will GTA 6 be?
There's no official number yet. Fan and press estimates mostly fall between 150 and 250 GB, and a leaked development build was reportedly over 200 GB — but leaked builds aren't the final game, and the viral “676 GB” figure is a hoax. That's why the calculator defaults to the worst case (250 GB): if you have that much free, you're covered. Read our pre-load and file size guide for every confirmed detail, and we'll update both pages the moment Rockstar publishes the size.
How to check your free space
| Console | Where to look |
|---|---|
| PS5 / PS5 Slim / PS5 Pro | Settings › Storage › Console Storage |
| Xbox Series X / Series S | Settings › System › Storage devices |
Three ways to make room
- Delete what you're not playing. Your games stay in your library and can be re-downloaded anytime; saves for most games are kept on the console or in the cloud.
- Park games on an external USB drive. Both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can store their games on USB, which is much faster than re-downloading — but they must go back to internal storage to be played.
- Add fast internal storage. This is the only way to play from extra space:
- PS5: an M.2 NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen4 x4, 250 GB to 8 TB) with a heatsink or other cooling. Sony recommends sequential read speeds of 5,500 MB/s or faster, and M.2 SATA drives aren't supported.
- Xbox Series X|S: an official storage expansion card. Games optimized for Series X|S won't run from a USB drive.
A 2 TB drive comfortably holds GTA VI plus the rest of your library, and prices usually drop around Black Friday — but if your free space is short, it's worth sorting this out before November 12.
Before launch day
- Check your space now, not on November 12.
- Make sure your pre-order is digital if you want to pre-load: the boxed edition is a download code you redeem.
- Keep an eye on the GTA 6 release date page for the official unlock time.

From the home screen go to Settings › Storage › Console Storage: it shows how much space is free and what is using it.
