GTA VI can compete at The Game Awards 2026. According to the show's eligibility rules, as reported on October 15, 2026 by Vice, GamesRadar+, Eurogamer and others, a game must be commercially available by 9 p.m. PT on November 20, 2026. GTA VI launches on November 19, so it fits, with about a day to spare.

We have not read the FAQ page itself, so the cutoff rests on consistent coverage by independent outlets. One earlier piece that called qualification borderline predates the confirmed rules.
Eligible is not nominated
Being inside the window only means GTA VI can be considered. Nominations come from the show's jury and voting process, and 2026 has other heavyweight releases. Reviews will matter too: Rockstar has not announced a review embargo, and reports about how review access will work remain rumors (see our release date guide).
The risk: another delay
The thin margin cuts both ways. Any slip past November 20 would push GTA VI into the 2027 awards cycle. Take-Two and Rockstar have held November 19, and Bloomberg's recent feature suggested that date looks real (see our Bloomberg report takeaways). Nothing official points to a change.
