Digital Foundry: GTA 6 launch trailer shows no resolution drop on PS5
Fans called the Launch Trailer a blurry downgrade. Digital Foundry’s frame analysis says otherwise, and spots a possible fix to a long-standing animation issue.

Digital Foundry says the GTA VI Launch Trailer does not show a resolution downgrade on PS5. After fans complained on October 15–16, 2026 that the trailer looked blurrier than earlier ones, the tech outlet analysed the frames and, according to reports from Notebookcheck and EGW News, measured an internal resolution of about 2560×1440 with no dynamic-resolution drops in the scenes shown.
What the analysis found
| Point | Status |
|---|---|
| About 1440p internal resolution in the PS5 trailer footage | Reliable report (Digital Foundry, via outlets) |
| No resolution drops in the scenes shown | Reliable report |
| A long-standing animation/camera-pan issue appears fixed | Tentative; small sample |
| HDR looks less impressive than hoped | Reported; separate Wccftech analysis agrees |
| Final game resolution, frame rate, PS5 Pro or upscaler use | Not confirmed by Rockstar |
The “blurry” look many viewers noticed can come from video compression, letterboxing and the particular scenes picked, so it does not by itself prove a downgrade.
Why this is not the final word
A trailer is a short, curated capture. Digital Foundry’s measurement describes those frames, not the retail game. Some outlets have gone further and claimed specifics about upscaling on base PS5; Rockstar has not confirmed any such detail, so treat it as unverified.
What to do next
The real answer will come with the game on November 19, 2026. Until then, compare the footage yourself in our Launch Trailer breakdown and see every trailer in the trailers hub.
