Sony releases PS5 firmware 14.22.00 with “security fixes” weeks before GTA 6

The patch note is one line long. Outlets link it to a reported jailbreak entry point, and a PSN data tracker claims GTA VI will require this version. Neither point is official.

Sony released PS5 system software 26.07-14.22.00 on November 2, 2026, and its only patch note is “security fixes”. Push Square, IGN and others link it to a reported jailbreak entry point on firmware 14.20. A data tracker also claims GTA VI will require this version, but Rockstar has not confirmed any minimum firmware.

Why it matters for launch

GTA VI releases on November 19 and pre-load opens on November 12, so a fresh console update in early November is not surprising. Console makers often push security patches before big launches, but Sony has said nothing about the game. Where the tracker is right, a console left on an older version could be asked to update before the game would run. That is a prediction, not a fact.

What to do

  • Keep automatic updates on, or install 14.22.00 manually before pre-load day.
  • Do not rely on exploits or custom firmware to skip updates: modified consoles risk bans and an unplayable launch.
  • Check our pre-load and file size guide for storage prep, and the release date hub for the timeline.

We will update this page if Sony or Rockstar states a minimum firmware. MAX WANTED is an independent fan site and not affiliated with Sony or Rockstar Games.

FAQ

Do I need PS5 firmware 14.22.00 to play GTA 6?

Unconfirmed. One PSN data tracker says the game will require it, but Rockstar and Sony haven't stated a minimum version. Updating is the safe choice anyway.

Outlets connect it to jailbreak activity and the upcoming launch, but that is inference. Sony hasn't mentioned GTA VI.
